Soil Testing Begins on Old Roosevelt Site
During the first few weeks of the New Year, the Eugene Family YMCA and our architects, engineers and contractors will begin initial stages of geotechnical investigations at the old Roosevelt Middle School site in preparation for future construction of the new Y.
Typical for a project of this scale, test pits will be dug and deeper borings will be made to better understand subsurface ground conditions. Foundation Engineering, Inc. of Corvallis will provide site observation during this work. Testing and analysis of soil samples, and observations of ground water conditions will help determine the best approach to the design of the building's foundations and pavements.
The 5.22 acres at 24th and Hilyard Streets has been partitioned and the option to purchase the property has been secured from the Eugene 4J School District. Groundbreaking and complete construction of the new facility is still fundraising dependent, however we are on track for a 2017 groundbreaking.
